We’re hiring Independent Living Officers to join our vibrant Supported Living team working across our Birmingham Schemes, including The Snowhill, B4 6EG and St Eugene’s Court, B5 6BB. This is a full time permanent role working to a rota – shift lengths vary but are between the hours of 8am and 8pm, including weekends.

You’ll work as part of a friendly and highly professional team with the responsibility for providing the very best housing-related support to a diverse group of customers aged 21-55, including single people and couples, who are facing homelessness.

You’ll support our customers by working with them to develop the skills they’ll need to successfully maintain independent living, sustain a tenancy effectively and make sound decisions in relation to education and employment. You’ll develop and put in place independent living plans for our customers, supporting them to engage in meaningful activities and equipping them with necessary skills to take forward into independent living.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a highly valued and respected team, making a real difference to the lives of our customers. Our team pride themselves on their strong links to the community, promoting celebratory events and religious festivals, fostering a culture of inclusivity and community spirit – which you’ll be part of too! As a leading housing organisation we also offer a range of growth opportunities to develop your skill set, including professional coaching and a recognised industry qualification.

Our ideal candidate? It goes without saying that you’ll be a people person with the passion, drive and enthusiasm for delivering quality services to people from different backgrounds. You’ll have knowledge of the welfare benefits system and issues relating to homelessness, with demonstrable experience of providing housing related support to customers with achieving effective outcomes. You’ll be able to work with others in a fair and assertive manner, using your excellent communication skills, with a solution focussed outlook. We’re also looking for basic IT skills, as a minimum we’re looking for you to be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

Who are Midland Heart? We’re a large and ambitious housing organisation providing more people an affordable place to call home. We welcome people from every walk of life, at every stage of their career.
