The Role

We’re seeking an Independent Living Officer to join our dedicated team at our Oasis House Service, in Northampton. Oasis House provides temporary accommodation to rough sleepers, offenders and those that have fallen on hard times. Our residents often have complex needs ranging from substance misuse, antisocial behaviour, learning disabilities and mental health needs. You’ll work as part of a friendly and supportive team, with responsibility for providing the very best housing and all-round life skills support to our residents living at Oasis House.

As an Independent Living Officer your aim is to stabilise residents in our accommodation, supporting them to maintain engagement with services in relation to their health, education and employment, enabling them to become independent in managing their own tenancy. You’ll provide both practical support by way of assisting residents with rent payments, setting up benefits and supporting a pattern of maintaining a tenancy; as well as emotional support by listening and signposting residents to relevant services or just simply providing encouragement and guidance. You’ll work in partnership with different services including Offender Management services, Social Care and Drug & Alcohol services, as well as the onsite Hope Centre who provide practical support to disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

This is a very rewarding but challenging role where you’ll positively impact the lives of our customers and the wider local community in Northampton. In partnership with the Hope Centre and West Northamptonshire Council, we’ve supported many residents to move on to independent living – apply now to help us continue in this mission!

Our ideal candidate? You’ll be an open-minded, approachable person with a drive and enthusiasm for delivering quality services to disadvantaged and marginalised adults or children. It goes without saying you’ll have experience dealing with challenging behaviour, with the ability to remain fair and assertive, using your excellent communication skills to reach solutions and overcome challenges. You’ll be self-sufficient with the ability to manage multiple priorities as you will be expected to self-manage around 10-15 cases at any one time, ranging in needs and dependency. You’ll understand the holistic support, both practical and emotional, that is required to sustain a tenancy. We’re also looking for you to be confident using a range of IT programmes (Microsoft Word, Outlook and Teams).

This is a full-time position working to a rota, that would suit an individual who is able to work flexibly – shift lengths vary but are between the hours of 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday.
