The Role

We’ve got an exciting opportunity for an Independent Living Officer to join our Supported Living Team, working across two schemes in Northampton - High Street South and Shoemaker Court. This is a casual position working to a rota, that would suit an individual who is able to work flexibly – shift lengths vary but are between the hours of 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday.

You’ll work as part of friendly and highly professional team with the responsibility for providing the very best housing-related support to individuals aged over 16 and families, including expectant mothers, who are facing homelessness.

As an Independent Living Officer your aim is to stabilise residents in our accommodation, supporting them to maintain engagement with services in relation to their health, education and employment, enabling them to become independent in managing their own tenancy. You’ll provide both practical support by way of assisting residents with rent payments, setting up benefits and supporting a pattern of maintaining a tenancy; as well as emotional support by listening and signposting residents to relevant services or just simply providing encouragement and guidance.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a highly valued team, making a real difference to the lives of our customers. As a leading housing organisation we also offer a range of growth opportunities to develop your skill set, including professional coaching and a recognised industry qualification.

Our ideal candidate? You’ll be an open-minded, approachable person with a drive and enthusiasm for delivering quality services to disadvantaged and marginalised adults or children. It goes without saying you’ll have experience dealing with challenging behaviour, with the ability to remain fair and assertive, using your excellent communication skills to reach solutions and overcome challenges. You’ll be self-sufficient with the ability to manage multiple priorities as you will be expected to self-manage a number of cases at any one time, ranging in needs and dependency. You’ll understand the holistic support, both practical and emotional, that is required to sustain a tenancy. We’re also looking for you to be confident using a range of IT programmes (Microsoft Word, Outlook and Teams).

Who are Midland Heart? We’re a large and ambitious housing organisation providing more people an affordable place to call home. We welcome people from every walk of life, at every stage of their career. We expect a lot from our people but in return, you can be assured of a great place to work, where you’ll be well rewarded and where great people are able to succeed. Whether you want to build your career with us, or use your experience to move on, we’re here to develop your potential.
