The Role

Midland Heart are a charitable registered provider of Social Housing, headquartered in Birmingham, with operations throughout the Midlands; a significant landlord, we have c.33,000 properties under management. Our financial performance is strong with a turnover in 2017/18 of around £194 million, generating a surplus of £48m.

Our mission is simple:  we deliver homes and services that enable our customers to live independently.  Whether that is through access to good quality housing for those who would otherwise struggle to afford homes in the private rented sector; or through providing services, to enable them to live independently.

We are ambitious and confident about our future, and as we embark on a new Corporate strategy, we plan to develop over 3,000 new homes by 2024 as well as investing significantly in our current housing stock.

Having delivered our best performance for years and as we enter this new period of increased development, we are seeking an additional member for our Audit and Risk Committee with a strong background in Risk Management and Assurance.

As a member of the Committee, you will bring extensive risk and assurance experience, knowledge and insight.  You will provide effective scrutiny and guidance to the Executive Team and the Board in managing risk, scrutinising internal controls, analysing audit findings and the associated assurance processes.  In addition to this, as a member of the Committee, you will have oversight of year-end financial statements and our annual report.

How and where you started your career in risk and audit isn’t important to us; more important is your ability to analyse the risk universe, understand how that applies to us and provide relevant challenge, guidance and scrutiny to our internal controls and assurance.  Your expertise in doing this will be proven at senior levels in large, complex organisations.   You will rely on excellent communication skills, to engage and influence senior stakeholders.  We are seeking to appoint to the Committee during spring 2019.

To apply, please register on our candidate portal and submit a comprehensive CV supported by a cover letter of no more than 2 pages, clearly explaining why you are interested in the post, the extent to which your skills and experience meet the role description and why you consider yourself suitable.

If you would like a confidential discussion about the role, please contact Mohammed Adil, Director of Planning & Performance on 07974220314 or at mohammed.adil@midlandheart.org.uk

Closing date for applications is 4pm on Friday 8th February 2019.

Interviews for shortlisted applicants will take place at our Bath Row, Birmingham office week commencing 18th February 2019
